Keke Palmer is ready to make a musical comeback. After appearing on shows like Scream Queens and starring in Fox’s live TV musical Grease: Live!, the 22 year old has released her latest single “Enemiez” featuring R&B singer Jeremih.
On the high-energy, urban-pop jam, Keke sings about wanting to be closer to her lover, to the point where she’s willing to be his enemy.
“This ain’t enough for me
Gotta be honest, I want you to lust for me
And if we’re just friends I’d rather be your enemy
So we can do all the things you’re holding back from me”.
It like the saying goes: “You keep your friends close, but you keep your enemies closer”.
The music video feels more like a short film, with Keke being forced to choose between her friends and her lover, who belongs to a rival gang. The storyline has a Romeo and Juliet-esque feel to it with kick-ass Michael Jackson/Aaliyah inspired choreography mixed in.
“Enemiez” serves as a taste of Keke’s upcoming sophomore album, set to be released later this year via Island Records.
