It’s the start of a new era for BTS.
The comeback trailer for the K-pop group’s Map of the Soul: Persona album was released on March 28. It features the intro track “Persona”, performed by RM and damn does it pack a punch!
“Persona” is an upbeat hip-hop track inspired Carl Jung’s theories on psychology, specifically the three archetypes — persona, shadow and ego, and how they impact the human psyche. The lyrics show RM reflecting on the struggle of figuring out who you are and keeping track of the different sides to your personality. It includes a sample of the group’s 2014 track “Intro: Skool Luv Affair”, and is a homage to BTS’ early days and maybe a hint that the guys will return to their original hip-hop roots.
Everything about the video for “Persona” can be linked to previous eras, and the whole thing seems to be looking back at how much has changed in RM’s life. At first he was a kid who dreamed to be a rapper, then a rapper who became an idol to make that dream come true, and now he’s giving speeches at the United Nations. and selling out stadiums.
Map of the Soul: Persona is set to be released on April 12.
