BTS scored their second No. 1 album on the Billboard 200 with Love Yourself: Answer. The Billboard 200 ranks the most popular albums in the United States. The chart bases its rankings on multi-metric consumption that includes streaming equivalent albums (SEA), track equivalent albums (TEA) and traditional album sales.
According to Nielsen Music, the album debuts at the top of the Billboard 200 for the September 8 dated chart with 185,000 album equivalent units sold, of which 141,000 were in traditional album sales, 25,000 units were 25,000 SEA units (which is about 39.01 million on-demand audio streams of the album’s songs) and 19,000 were TEA units.
Love Yourself: Answer now has the biggest first week sales for a Korean language album, beating the record Love Yourself: Tear set with 135,000 units. BTS are now the first (and only) Korean artist to have two No. 1 albums in the US and the first pop act to have two No. 1 albums in less than a year since 2014 (One Direction topped the Billboard 200 with Midnight Memories’ back in December 14, 2013, which was followed by Four less than a year later on December 6, 2014).
BTS also has the third largest week for a pop album in 2018, behind Justin Timberlake’s Man of the Woods (293,000 units) and Ariana Grande’s Sweeetner (231,000 units).
Love Yourself: Answer is the final album in BTS’ Love Yourself trilogy. The album series started back in September 2017 with Love Yourself: Her, which debuted and peaked at No. 7 on the Billboard 200, becoming BTS’ first top ten entry on the chart. The second installment, Love Yourself: Tear dropped earlier this year on May 18, where it debuted at No. 1.
