Things you learn…

I’m becoming an activist. I don’t know exactly when it happened or why it happened. It’s been happening gradually and it’s getting to the point there are so many things I want to say I’d love to broadcast it.

Hey, that’s what I’m doing, isn’t it?

What I am so enthused about? Technology and the lack of people using it efficiently. I went to a get together yesterday and out of the 128 people that were there only 29 had computers at home. Of the 29, 8 had computers sitting in a corner collecting dust. Many use computers at work but they are not set up to access the internet. They all had cable but no computer.

Ok, feel better now. I asked them why they didn’t have one and it wasn’t money it was fear. Fear of breaking it.  Fear of not knowing what to do with it. Fear of upgrading it. Fear of everything.

I want to combat that. Fear stops us from evolving and maturing. I want to help people understand technology. With all forms of technology there is a basic model with the ability to upgrade. That’s the way to do it. I remember learning flipping the switch on my first computer for the first time. I remember when it broke and I had to take it to the repair shop.

Now I build computers and I can fix everything myself. If I can do it anybody can do it.

That’s one of the reasons why I started this site but I realized writing this post that I need to evolve it into something else. There are many news sites but to get newbies on the Internet comfortably it’s going to take something else – commentary and explanation.
