On Day 3 of Coachella Weekend 1, XG made their intergalactic debut—and they did not come in peace. They came to conquer.
Dressed like celestial queens from a hyper-stylized alien world, the Japanese girl group opened with “XGENE,” kicking off a tightly packed set that pulled from every era of their sound—hip-hop cyphers, glossy R&B, sleek Y2K-inspired pop.
And yes, it sounded amazing. Their vocals were surprisingly powerful and stable even while they were dancing. Songs like “TGIF” and “Puppet Show” had a theatrical edge, while a dreamy piano version of “Is This Love” gave the girls a chance to show off their vocal range and their softer side. And when they performed the final song, “Shooting Star,” it was pure power—big vocals and even bigger charisma. It was the kind of performance that makes you forget this was their first time on that stage.

An Abrupt Ending
As soon as they finished singing “SHOOTING STAR,” the group struck a final pose… and just walked off the stage. No goodbye, no wave, no “Thank you, Coachella!”
It felt jarring—like a movie that cuts to black right before the last scene. Or watching a spaceship blast off into the stars and then vanish without saying goodbye. Maybe it was intentional, a part of the girls’ mystique. It left a weird aftertaste on an otherwise stellar set.
Still, for 40 minutes, XG owned the Sahara stage. Their Coachella debut was unapologetically bold and extra. The ending may have been abrupt, but they still proved they belong on global stages—and they’re only just getting started.
