It’s a quiet, normal morning on the grounds of Brooklyn Visions Academy, but it doesn’t feel that way for Miles Morales. He’s still reeling from the events of the last issue, where he learns new villain Revenant wants revenge after he was betrayed by Miles’ father Jefferson Morales in the past.

Miles is sitting on an outdoor bench thanking the new kid Valentina Ludvenko for listening as he struggles to make out what he feels about his father now. Valentina reveals that her father is in prison in Russia while her mother is in denial. The situation is the reason why she’s a student at Brooklyn Visions Academy as she wanted to “get as far away from that as I could.” Anyway, she tells Miles she can keep secrets so it’s safe for him to talk about anything.
Revenant Attacks Brooklyn Visions Academy
Those calm morning vibes are shattered in an instant when an explosion blows right through the school hallway ceiling. A giant, heavily armored villain with glowing eyes and a massive axe crashes into the building. It’s Revenant, screaming out for Miles Morales and how his father owes him a debt. A school security guard tries to call in a hard lockdown over his radio, but Revenant knocks him out cold before he can finish the call. Complete chaos breaks out as students and staff scramble for the exits.
How Does Spider-Man Fight Off the Intruder?
While everyone else flees, Miles slips away into a utility room to change into his suit. He reminds himself that Miles is the one hiding, not Spider-Man. He leaps back into the wreckage to confront Revenant head on. Miles treats the fight like a video game. He carefully reads his opponent’s range, stays light on his feet while keeping out of reach of the giant axe. He keeps Revenant on the defensive with hit-and-run tactics, throwing debris and stringing together web strikes. Miles lands an air-dash kick, but the brute barely flinches.

“You care about these people,” Revenant says in reference to the students. “I don’t.”
Before Spider-Man can act, Revenant tears down another giant chunk of the ceiling right over the teen hero. He then flies over to the crowd as they’re trying to leave the area. “Where is Miles Morales?” Revenant asks before he sends the crowd of students flying out of a window. Thinking fast, Miles shoots out a massive web net across the courtyard, catching every single falling student in mid-air. He shares a brief “Hi” with Valentina and tells her to stay in the sticky as he goes back to fight Revenant.

Jeff Morales Surrenders
Revenant mocks Spider-Man for saving the kids, stating he should have let them die so they wouldn’t have to watch Spider-Man fall. He overpowers Miles in the brawl, kicking him across the pavement and pinning his head onto the hood of a car with his boot.
Just as things look hopeless, Miles’s father arrives. Addressing Revenant by his real name Martin, Jeff offers himself up in exchange for Spider-Man’s life. Revenant is finds the demand dubious since he has no idea Spider-Man is Miles Morales. All Jeff will say is that Spider-Man is worth far more than him is. Besides, he’s the one Revenant is after, not his family or the kids at the school.

Miles begs his dad not to do it, but Revenant kicks him off the car. In a surge of glowing energy, Revenant teleports himself and Jeff away, leaving Miles battered on the ground.
First responders flood the school grounds, tending to the injured students while they secure the building. Meanwhile, at an undisclosed location, Revenant tortures Jeff with his powers. He wants Jeff to feel the pain he experienced when Fisk made him the villain he is today, promising there’s plenty more pain to come.
Back in his bedroom, Miles stares at a tactical map on his wall, trying to figure out his next move. His phone rings with a call from Valentina. She cuts straight to the chase and asks him one question: “How do you know Spider-Man?”
