Amazing Venom #2 Explained: Fred Myers Betrays Everyone

Fred Myers and Passenger
Read our Amazing Venom #2 recap to see how Fred Myers outsmarted Wanda, the Hulk, and M.O.D.O.K. using a surprising hidden trick.

Fred Myers (aka Comeback) is on a mission. He wants to send his symbiote partner, Passenger, back to its home planet, Klyntar after it was disconnected from the symbiote hive mind. Fred believes that once Passenger is gone, he can get back to his old life of planning street-level crimes from his cozy townhouse. But getting to Klyntar isn’t easy. There are space blockades and no-fly zones around the planet, meaning normal travel is out of the question.

To get the job done, Fred and Passenger spend the day swinging through New York City, visiting superheroes and asking for help. At first glance, it looks like a string of never-ending rejections. But by the end of the day, we see that every single visit was actually part of a carefully staged heist.

Stop 1: Wanda Maximoff’s Sanctum

Fred swings over Washington Square Park with Passenger confident that the Sorcerer Supreme, Wanda Maximoff, can fix their problem. Fred assumes magic is just “science with too much jewelry” and expects Wanda to send Passenger to Klyntar with a simple snap of her fingers.

They drop into her sanctum, but Wanda shuts the idea down. She’s busy holding a shape-shifting Celtic creature called a Pùca in a magical stasis mid-transformation while she surgically removes its hex. She explains that she can’t just send Passenger to Klyntar because of the heavy cosmic blockades surrounding the planet.

Fred continues to interrupt her which breaks her concentration. The Pùca turns into a full-sized horse, and kicks Fred straight through a wall. Wanda orders Fred and Passenger to leave. Though the visit looks like a disaster, Passenger makes sure to grab a magical bag before they get kicked out.

Stop 2: Amadeus Cho’s Lab

Fred tries to drop in through the ventilation shaft by impersonating Spider-Man, but Amadeus isn’t fooled. He knows what Fred is up to because the Avengers share intel, he scans his building continuously, and Fred’s physique gives him away.

When Fred asks for help getting to Klyntar, Amadeus refuses because the political situation surrounding the planet is far too dangerous. Passenger suggests using intimidation, mainly because he really wants to fight a Hulk. The fight doesn’t last long when Amadeus transforms into the Hulk and hurls Fred through another wall.

As they dust themselves off, Passenger confirms they managed to grab what they really came for: a small explosive device. Passenger tells Fred their real problem is asking high-profile superheroes for help, so they need a normal science nerd with free time.

Stop 3: Peter Parker’s Apartment

That thought brings Fred to the apartment of his former roommate, Peter Parker (Spider-Man). Fred tries to butter Peter up, asking if he knows how to get access to space rockets for a “top-secret, charitable project.”

Peter is immediately suspicious. He brings up their terrible history as roommates, like how Fred was constantly late on rent and kept putting non-food items in their shared crock-pot. Peter refuses to help with any secret rocket schemes. But he does tell Fred that he genuinely believes there is a good guy underneath all of that bragging.

Feeling conflicted about betraying someone who actually believes in him, Fred distracts Peter by grabbing his old crock-pot. “Suck it, Parker! This crock-pot is rightfully mine!” Fred screams as he’s sprinting down the street with Peter chasing after him.

Stop 4: Johnny Storm and the Baxter Building

Realizing that “nerds love rules,” Passenger suggests finding someone cool who has access to space technology. They head to the Baxter Building to see Johnny Storm, the Human Torch.

Unlike the other heroes, Johnny greets Fred like an old friend and invites him inside for beers. With the rest of the Fantastic Four away on a diplomatic mission, Johnny shows off their trophy collection, including the head of the very first Doombot and a Quantum Kegerator that brews extremely cold beer.

While the two reminisce about their old times drinking at “The Bar With No Name,” Passenger slips away on a tendril to create a distraction. He frees a captive dragon-like alien called a Makluan from its containment tank.

As the creature rampages through the lab, Fred and Johnny fight back. Fred web-wraps the Kegerator into a makeshift bomb while Johnny ignites it with a blast of fire inside the creature’s mouth. This causes a massive explosion that defeats the alien.

In the aftermath, Johnny realizes Fred must have staged the breakout. Disappointed, Johnny lets Fred leave because of their history, but tells him to stop whatever he is doing and says goodbye.

“Wow. Another person who believed in you, betrayed. This is kind of a pattern for you, but?” Passenger points out. But Fred doesn’t want his partner to be his therapist. All that matters is they got what they came for so they can head for their next stop.

The Final Stop: M.O.D.O.K.’s Deal

With their errands complete, Fred and Passenger meet up with the villain M.O.D.O.K., who has agreed to give them a stealth ship equipped with an autopilot set for Klyntar.

In exchange, Fred hands over the head of the first Doombot. M.O.D.O.K. is thrilled, asking how Fred managed to steal it from the Baxter Building. Fred reveals he used the magic bag stolen from Wanda’s sanctum, which makes anything inside invisible to technology-based sensors.

Passenger finally puts the whole day’s events together. The entire day of “failed” requests was a setup to gather trade items.

  • Wanda’s Magic Bag: Used to hide the stolen tech from sensors.
  • Amadeus Cho’s Explosive: Hidden inside the Doombot head.
  • The Doombot Head: Used as payment to trick M.O.D.O.K.
  • The Crock-Pot: Just for Fred to cook easy weeknight meals.

As M.O.D.O.K. gloats on how he’ll use the Doombot tech to build a mechanical army, the head begins to beep. Fred and Passenger take off in their new spaceship just as M.O.D.O.K.’s warehouse blows up behind them.
