The Alien Girl in Dandadan’s Season 2 Finale Explained

The kaiju pilot kissing Okarun is Vamola, whose tragic past will drive major arcs in season 3.

⚠️Warning: This article contains spoilers for the season 2 finale of Dandadan and future story arcs. Reader discretion is advised.

The season 2 finale of Dandadan didn’t hold back. During a high-stakes battle with a towering kaiju, Momo, Okarun, Aira, Jiji, and Kinta manage to deliver the final blow. The monster collapses and everyone thinks the danger is over. Right?

The gang returns with the mecha to Kamigoe City. While Momo and Aira rush into Momo’s house due to motion sickness, the boys make a shocking discovery. The Kaiju is actually a suit piloted by a green-haired alien girl. The season ends with the strange girl kissing Okarun while a heartbroken Momo watches (who accidentally blows up her house due to her shock).

It’s definitely an interesting way to end the season. Season 3 is currently in production but if you don’t want to wait, we’ll turn to the manga for answers! (Warning: spoilers ahead).

Meet Vamola: The Alien in the Suit

The mysterious alien girl is named Vamola (sometimes translated as Bamora). She’s a Sumerian alien and the only surviving child of her people after an invasion wiped them out. Rescued and raised by a woman named Banga, she fled her ruined world with the help of a powerful exosuit.

Her backstory is filled with loss, and displacement as she struggles to adapt to life on Earth. Then there’s the mission she’s on. Following her adoptive mother’s wishes, she’s looking for a strong husband to help continue her species’ bloodline. She believes Okarun is the perfect candidate after watching him fight. Her kissing him is actually an attempt to mate and bond him (she’s very innocent).

Where This All Leads

The kiss at the end of season 2 sets the stage for several key story lines in Dandadan:

Momo and Okarun’s romance detour: The kiss only throws a small wrench into Momo and Okarun’s blossoming “friends to eventually lovers” relationship. However, Vamola’s forwardness towards Okarun forces Momo to confront her own feelings.

A new teammate with baggage: Vamola isn’t an enemy anymore, but her inability to speak English leads to misunderstandings. Also, the whole “Okarun is my chosen mate” thing complicates how she fits into the group.

Themes of loss and belonging: Her presence adds some emotional depth to Dandadan. She’s not just comic relief. She embodies questions about survival, identity, and how you can build a family after losing everything.

For fans dreading a love triangle overshadowing the main story, don’t worry. In the manga, Momo and Bamora become close over time and develop a sisterly relationship. Oh also, Aira survives after being inside the Ayase house as it explodes!

By the time season 3 rolls around, expect Vamola to be firmly part of the team, bringing both chaos and heart to Kamigoe City.
