Alastor’s Freedom Changes Everything for Charlie’s Hazbin Hotel

Alastor with Charlie Morningstar from Hazbin Hotel
Season 2 freed Alastor from his deals. Now Hell’s power structure is collapsing and Charlie’s hotel sits in the crossfire.

Season 2 of Hazbin Hotel ended with Alastor being free from his deals with Rosie and Vox. Right now, the Radio Demon answers to no one.

And he’s still at Charlie’s hotel for Sinners seeking a shot at entering Heaven.

That choice changes his entire relationship with Charlie Morningstar and her redemption project. Meanwhile, Hell’s overlord hierarchy is collapsing. Vox is humiliated, Valentino is making moves. And Charlie’s hotel sits right in the middle of a power vacuum that could swallow it whole.

Alastor’s Freedom

Before the series began, Alastor’s Soul was bound to Rosie. His involvement with the hotel wasn’t voluntary. It was all a part of a larger plan Rosie has (which hasn’t been revealed yet).

Now, Alastor has chosen to remain at the hotel after gaining his freedom. He didn’t have to return, he chose to come back. That decision raises a lot of questions.

Why is he there? What does he want from Charlie? And why is he eyeing Lucifer?

Throughout the second season, we saw that Alastor cared more about his own power than Charlie’s well-being. Before he was a reluctant staff member serving Rosie’s agenda, not his own. Now he’s operating on his own desires which makes him more dangerous.

The hotel serves some purpose for him. We just don’t know what.

Can Charlie Trust Alastor?

Charlie built her entire redemption philosophy on one belief: anyone can change. Alastor is going to test that theory to its breaking point.

He’s despicable in both life and afterlife. He was a serial killer as a human. The fact that he knew enough about Hell and how it operates to make a deal with Rosie to become a powerful demon when he died says a lot about him. His charm and politeness toward Charlie doesn’t erase what he is. It just makes him harder to read.

For now, Charlie is in the dark about Alastor’s true nature. When she does find out, she’ll have to make a choice. Can she redeem Alastor? Can she trust someone who has manipulated her since the moment they met? And continues to do so of their own free will?

Series creator Vivienne Medrano teased that season 3 will explore Alastor’s true intentions now that he’s free. Those intentions will determine whether the hotel survives Hell’s power vacuum.

Hell’s Overlord Hierarchy Is Collapsing

While Alastor’s freedom creates personal drama, the situation with the Overlords could have devastating consequences.

Vox lost all his power and was humiliated on live television. His reputation is destroyed. His friendships with Valentino and Velvette are strained at best. Medrano mentioned in an interview that Vox has been humbled and won’t be at the top of the food chain in the third season.

That’s a massive problem because Vox controlled tech and media in Hell. His fall created a vacuum, and Valentino wasted no time capitalizing on it. He took over VoxTek and became its president. He’s also publicly distanced himself from his now frenemy by saying “Who’s Vox?” It’s a calculated power play. He’s saving the brand while positioning himself for dominance.

Meanwhile, Alastor hasn’t reasserted himself as the strongest overlord. He used his deal with Charlie to force her to publicly call Vox the strongest Overlord in Hell’s. While the move freed him from Rosie and Vox’s control, his reputation had to have taken a serious hit.

Other Overlords are eager to use the instability to their advantage. And Charlie’s hotel sits right in the middle of what could be a brewing turf war. Charlie may need Alastor’s protection more than ever, but can she rely on someone with true loyalty to her?

Valentino’s ambitions are especially concerning given his connection to Angel Dust. If he decides the hotel threatens his interests, he has leverage.

What Season 3 Needs to Answer

Can someone as calculating and power-hungry as Alastor capable of being redeemed? Does his freedom make redemption possible since he can choose to be good? Or does the darkness residing in his soul run too deep?

It could be he’s only using Charlie to gain access to her father Lucifer. Maybe, just maybe Alastor really does have genuine interest in her mission alongside his own interests.

If Charlie can reach him, she proves her philosophy works on any Sinner who’s willing to better themselves. But Alastor could force Charlie to realize there are some souls who don’t want to turn their afterlife around. Everything she’s been working towards could fall apart under the weight of the Radio Demon’s ambitions.

Season 3 can’t come fast enough.
