Marvel Rivals Season 8 Sins of Alchemax Lore Explained

Cyclops, Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur in Marvel Rivals Season 8
Cyclops and Moon Girl are trapped in the 2099 timeline while Alchemax and Doom 2099 plot their next move. Here’s a quick recap of Sins of Alchemax.

Season 8 of the PVP hero shooter Marvel Rivals is here and it brings the 2099 universe into the forefront. After seven seasons of exploring how the Timestream Entanglement is affecting the multiverse, Sins of Alchemax could open the door for Doctor Doom 2099 (who’s responsible for causing the Timestream Entanglement along with his present day counterpoint) to become more dangerous than anyone could have imagined.

Cyclops is Trapped in the Year 2099

The season starts with the X-Men’s leader, Cyclops (Scott Summers), attending Gambit and Rogue’s wedding on Krakoa when the Timestream Entanglement tears through reality. He finds himself in the year 2099 and the futuristic version of New York, now renamed Nueva York. He tries to keep a low profile, but it doesn’t work. He draws the attention of Alchemax International, a major pharmaceutical mega-corporation who’ve effectively replaced traditional government with corporate sovereignty. In layman’s terms, they rule the 2099 timeline with an iron fist (no pun intended).

Cyclops holds his own against Alchemax’s private police force Public Eye until he spots Moon Girl (Lunella Lafayette) in the middle of the fire fight. He steps in and tries to protect her but that decision gets them both captured by Alchemax.

What Role Does Moon Girl Play in Sins of Alchemax?

Moon Girl is ten years old, and yet this super-genius is already smarter than Minster Fantastic. She also shares a psychic bond with her close companion Devil Dinosaur, a giant, red-skinned, intelligent Tyrannosaurus-like dinosaur.

The two are separated from each other due the time stream chaos. Devil Dinosaur ends up in an alternate timeline where he’s captured by the Collector. Devil Dino is eventually rescued by Deadpool in Season 6 and by Season 8, he’s living on Deadpool’s Monster Kingdom in present-day New York.

Alchemax’s Grand Plan

So why is Alchemax interested in Cyclops and Moon Girl? The answer is money…and power.

When Krakoa was pulled into the 2099 timeline, Emma Frost’s Hellfire Trading Company moved in and crushed Alchemax’s market share. Profits are down by around 300% while the Hellfire Trading Company dominates the pharmaceutical market.

Alchemax’s CEO Tyler Stone has a solution to turn things around: use a powerful energy crystal called Kronovium to open gateways into past timelines. His plan is to sell Alchemax’s futuristic technology to earlier eras, transforming the company into a cross-dimensional superpower.

To make his plan work, he needs a power source. That’s where Cyclops comes in. His optic beams draw power from the Punch Dimension, and Alchemax forces his eyes open to pour that energy into the Kronovium. Tyler also uses Moon Girl’s desire to return home as leverage to make her open those gateways.

The Heroes’ Counter-Plan

While experimenting with the Kronovium, Moon Girl finds a way to contact Devil Dinosaur through the transponder on his collar. He’s also conveniently at the Baxter Building with Mister Fantastic and Deadpool, when she contacts him.

Working together, Moon Girl and Mister Fantastic devise a plan to redesign his time reintegration device into a smaller version that can run on Kronovium. The device is hidden inside Devil Dinosaur’s new Chrono Armor, built by Mister Fantastic himself.

The heroes infiltrate Alchemax Tower, connect the device to the Punch Kronovium, and send Alchemax back to the 2099 timeline where they belong. If it works, this device could also be used to undo the Timestream Entanglement and heal the multiverse.

Attack of the Alchemax Clones

While all of this is happening, Alchemax releases clones of well-known heroes into present-day New York: Rogue, Gambit, Star-Lord, Wolverine, and Magik. Each one has been subjected to what’s been described as “technological torture” to transformed them into living weapons.

Thankfully, a team consisting of Magik, Phoenix, Gambit, Rogue, and Psylocke take the clones down without too much trouble. But the fact that Alchemax could create them at all shows how dangerous this corporation really is.

Several of these clones will appear as skins in the game, including a Rogue clone, a Magik clone, Gambit’s battle pass skin, and an upgraded Psylocke look featuring technology crafted by Forge.

Doom Was Never on Anyone’s Side

The final Gallery Card pulls the rug out from under you with a shocking twist.

Doom 2099 is revealed to have made a deal with Tyler Stone. Doom helped dismantle Emma Frost’s Hellfire Trading Company from the inside by attending her Hellfire Gala and siphoning off the residual chronal energy that was poisoning Krakoa. However, this forced Krakoa into a healing period, destroying the rare flora used in the Hellfire Trading Company’s  pharmaceuticals. Krakoa’s dominance in the market is crippled, allowing  Alchemax to reclaim their spot at the top.

In return, Doom receives a crystal of Punch Kronovium. But he’s not interested in corporate politics. Doom’s real goal is to rule the Chronoverses itself, commanding all timelines and alternate realities. This ambition ties back to Season 5, where Doom was haunted by visions of his mother trapped in hell. The Kronovium may be the next step in a plan to rescue his mother’s soul from Mephisto.

Season 8 could be a game changer for the game’s main story arc. Moon Girl’s plan could potentially give the heroes the key to fixing the time stream. That resolution could open the door for Doctor Doom to become a playable character, just in time for the Path to Doomsday event that ends this December.

But Alchemax is still out there scheming while Cyclops and Moon Girl are still trapped in the 2099 timeline. With Season 8.5 scheduled to launch on June 12, 2026, the next chapter of the Sins of Alchemax arc could have major repercussions for the game.

Marvel Rivals is free to play on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store.
