Star Wars: Visions Season 2, Episode 1 Recap: Sith

Discover the story of Lola, a former Sith apprentice, who paints her own destiny.

Star Wars Visions season 2 opens with the debut episode titled “Sith,” which follows the story of Lola, a young woman living in isolation on a remote planet. She is a powerful Force-user who uses her abilities to create beautiful paintings. However, Lola’s peaceful life is disrupted when her paintings are tainted with black. As she tries to unravel the mystery, she discovers that a hulking Sith lord has deliberately sabotaged one of the planet’s beacons.

To Lola’s surprise, the Sith lord turns out to be her former master.  She is a former Sith apprentice who has abandoned the path of darkness. When Lola tries to flee, she is forced to fight her former master using a yellow, slightly bent lightsaber she has crafted. During the fight, Lola has an epiphany that she is meant to embrace both the light and dark sides of the Force. As a result, her lightsaber transforms into a double-sided red and yellow one, and she defeats her former master without falling to the dark side.

After the battle, Lola and her droid companion, E2, leave the planet together. Lola declares that she is now the master of her destiny and can paint her own path. In the completed painting, her double-sided lightsaber is shown, and the black surrounding the planets dissipates as they fly towards their new destination.

The episode’s theme, which reflects the broader Star Wars universe, is the tension between the dark and light sides of the Force. While the Sith and Jedi orders each have their strengths and weaknesses, Lola represents a different way of being, one that prioritizes individual choice and empowerment over strict adherence to a specific ideology.

In a world where people may not always respect our boundaries or understand our choices, Lola’s story is a reminder that we have agency over our own lives and that we can harness our inner darkness to become stronger. Ultimately, the message of “Sith” is one of hope and possibility, a celebration of the human spirit’s resilience in the face of adversity.
