When I heard they were making a live-action Elden Ring movie, I was excited and curious. Not about who’s in it or how it’s going to look, but about something bigger. Can this movie actually speak to people who don’t play the game but still love its world?
Because let me tell you, that’s a real group. And we don’t get much.
A24, Garland, and a Whole Lot of Potential
So here’s the setup: A24 is producing it. The same A24 that gave us Ex Machina and Hereditary. Films that are weird, smart, and unforgettable. Alex Garland is directing (Annihilation, Warfare) and George R. R. Martin is on board as a producer. He helped build the Elden Ring world, so he’s not new here.
FromSoftware’s Hidetaka Miyazaki is supervising. He admitted they don’t make movies. That’s fine! He wants to make sure the heart of the story survives.
No Plot. No Cast. No Timeline. Just… Potential.
We don’t know anything else yet. No characters, no release date, nothing. That might sound risky, but to me? That’s a clean canvas. If they’re thoughtful, they can really make something special here.
And this isn’t A24’s only video game project. They’re also doing a Death Stranding movie with the director of A Quiet Place: Day One. Clearly, they’re not just taking shots in the dark. They’re looking for stories with depth and style. That’s promising.
What About the Lore-Lovers Who Don’t Play?
Now this is where it gets interesting. I’ll be honest. I don’t play Elden Ring. But I’ve watched every single VaatiVidya video he’s done on Elden Ring. Every. Single. One.
I don’t want gameplay tips. I want to know who these characters are, and connect the dots on story plots I missed. I want to understand the world, even though I never played the game.
And I’m not alone. Vaati has over three million subscribers. You really think all of them are playing Elden Ring? Some of us are just here for the story.
I’m looking forward to the videos VaatiVidya will make. What new lore the movie will add to the story. Connecting dots between previous games and the movie. I want to know.
Look at Fallout—It Already Happened
We’ve seen this before. I own almost all of the Fallout games but I do not enjoy playing them. It bothers me that I cannot improve the state of the world. It’s too dirty and bleak for me. I thoroughly enjoy watching my friends play and geeking out on the lore with them.
When the Amazon show dropped? I was all over it. And again, I wasn’t alone. Tons of people who never played the games were suddenly into the universe. Watching, discussing, and digging into the backstory.
There’s a whole audience that doesn’t want to play. They want to dive into the lore in their own way. Through shows. Through videos. Through stories they can sit with, not survive.
The Real Opportunity Here
So maybe this movie isn’t just for players. Maybe it’s for people like me. People who don’t fight the bosses but know all their names. People who couldn’t tell you how to build a character, but could talk for hours about what happened in the Shattering.
If A24 and FromSoftware get this right, they could open Elden Ring up to a whole new group. Not just gamers. Story lovers. Lore hunters. People who love the world, even if they’re not in it.
