Dandadan follows the chaotic misadventures of high schoolers Momo Ayase and Ken “Okarun” Takakura. Their chance encounter with aliens and ghosts turns their lives completely upside down. The second season is airing now on Netflix and Crunchyroll. It’s as unhinged as ever while it adapts story arcs from the manga.
The Cursed House Arc: Ghosts, Worms, and Family Secrets
Season 2 kicks off with the Cursed House Arc, where Momo and Okarun investigate the nightmare haunting the home of Jiji, Momo’s childhood friend. What starts as a ghost hunt spirals into a showdown with the Kito Family, a clan twisted enough to sacrifice people to the Tsuchinoko. It’s a Mongolian Death Worm that’s as grotesque as it sounds.
The Kito Family and the Tsuchinoko yokai serve as dual threats here, with battles that push the group to their limits. Momo steps up with her psychic abilities in a standout fight against the Kito Family after they ambush Okarun and Jiji inside the house. The family’s head insists the sacrifices are necessary to keep the village safe, but that logic crumbles fast once the Tsuchinoko slithers into the fray.
The Evil Eye Arc: Jiji’s Possession
The Cursed House storyline bleeds directly into the Evil Eye Arc. Here, Jiji becomes possessed by the titular yokai, a malevolent spirit infamous for driving its victims to end their own lives. Jiji’s struggle forces the group into impossible situations, and when Momo is endangered, Okarun makes the risky call to train under Turbo Granny.
The arc’s real power comes from how it escalates the stakes without losing the humor and banter that make Dandadan so distinct. It’s one thing to fight a monster; it’s another to fight your best friend while trying to save them.
The Kaiju Question: Are We Going Big?
Eagle-eyed fans have spotted hints that Season 2 might go straight into the Kaiju Arc. Promotional art has teased musical instruments and strange monsters, both of which tie into that storyline. In the manga, this arc introduces new faces like Vamola and Kinta Sakata, along with colossal supernatural threats that make previous battles look small by comparison. Think alien kaiju, giant robots, and the “rule of cool” dialed up to eleven.
If Season 2 really does venture into Kaiju territory, the tonal shift will be massive. The focus will expand into widescreen monster spectacle.
Season 2 of Dandadan has already proven it’s willing to supercharge its source material for the anime format. By combining horror, action, comedy, and wild spectacle, it’s cementing itself as one of the most unpredictable shows this year.
