⚠️ Spoiler Alert: This article contains spoilers for episodes 1–7 of season 2 of Daredevil: Born Again. Reader discretion is advised.
New York City is at war with itself. Wilson Fisk is still mayor and the streets belong to his enforcers. Matt Murdock has spent all season trying to stop Fisk without breaking his no-kill rule. But Matt’s restraint has only caused more harm for the city and the people he loves.
The season 2 finale of Daredevil: Born Again, “The Southern Cross” will premiere May 5, 2026 on Disney+ at 9:00 p.m. ET. Here is everything you need to know before you watch it tonight.
New York Has Fallen Into Fisk’s Hands
As the Mayor of New York City, Wilson Fisk has turned the police into a weapon against vigilantes as a part of his “Safer Streets Initiative” . His Anti-Vigilante Task Force (AVTF) patrols the streets and will apprehend anyone they suspect is a vigilante. And thanks to CIA Director Valentina Allegra de Fontaine, the state and local government are barred from investigating Fisk’s abuse of his power.
Matt Murdock (Daredevil) has been forced into hiding after Fisk praised him as a hero, prompting the public to search for him. He and Karen Page are running a resistance as they build their case against Fisk. Matt even sports a new black suit this season, with the iconic double-D emblem on the chest for the first time. It’s a small symbol of identity in a city trying to erase him.

The problem with Matt’s strategy is that the legal system has failed him before. Fisk went to prison, only to be acquitted and released. Dex Poindexter (Bullseye) went to a psychiatric hospital but Fisk’s wife Vanessa had him released so he could kill Matt’s friend Foggy Nelson. Even Karen argues that this cycle of violence will never end unless he or Fisk are dead. But Matt refuses to abandon his principles, no matter what it costs him.
Fisk Loses Vanessa
Episode 4 “Gloves Off” is the turning point of the season.
During a charity boxing match, Bullseye attacks Fisk. In the chaos, Vanessa is hit by a shard of glass that pierces her temple. She survives the night, but eventually dies from her injuries. And Wilson Fisk dies with her, or more accurately the version of him that bothered to restrain his darker impulses.

When the surgeon who operated on Vanessa offers his condolences, Fisk returns the gesture by breaking the poor man’s spine. That is who Fisk is now. Uncontrollable, grieving, furious and more dangerous than ever.
Vanessa’s death is meant to mirror Foggy’s death back in season 1. Matt and Fisk have lost the person who kept them anchored with the cruel irony that Bullseye was the one who killed both. While Foggy’s death pushed Matt toward mercy, losing Vanessa is shoving Fisk toward destruction.
Bullseye Is Trying to Be Good and Matt Is Letting Him Try
Bullseye is more of a complex anti-villian/anti-hero than an outright antagonist this season.
At the end of Season 1, it was revealed that Vanessa had pressured Bullseye into killing Foggy as the price of his freedom from the psychiatric hospital. Bullseye has spent this season coming to terms with what he did. He’s obsessed with the concept of “balancing the scales.” If he takes the life of someone who’s bad, it will cancel out him killing someone who’s good.
Matt spends the second half of the season trying to decide what to do with Bullseye. When the AVTF is hunting Bullseye down following his attack at the boxing match, rather than leaving Bullseye to die, Matt saves him. He smuggles him to safety through underground tunnels and lets him recover in his hideout. Karen is not thrilled about this arrangement and even pulls a gun on Dex. Matt knocks it from her hand. He believes, even now, that people can change.
In episode 7 “The Hateful Darkness,” Matt makes it clear that while he hates Dex for all the lives he’s taken, he will give Dex one chance at redemption: one good deed. It’s a gamble that pays off in a big way. Bullseye shows up just in time to save Governor McCaffrey, the one with the power to end Fisk’s operation, from one of Fisk’s assassins. He incapacitates the attacker with a couple of throwing knives and walks away smiling. It is not an absolution, but it is something.
Karen Page Is Not Afraid of Anyone
Karen has really come into her own this season, evolving into a hardened and even ruthless individual. She has been active in collecting evidence of Fisk’s crimes and following leads.
During a protest at Vanessa Fisk’s vigil, Karen uses a projector to broadcast the confessions of the people who were imprisoned in his illegal detention warehouse at Red Hook Port. The projections even appear on the walls of City Hall. It causes a riot which leads to her arrest.
Fisk makes a visit to Karen’s cell to tell her he’s going to put her on trial as a trap to lure Matt out of hiding. He even compares her to a wounded soldier screaming for help. Karen does not flinch, even when he grabs her neck through the bars of her cell. “You know, I’ve never seen you scared before. I kind of like it,” she tells him. She can sense his vulnerability now that the city is turning against him and she isn’t afraid to throw it back in his face.
While detained at the 15th precinct, Matt’s ex-girlfriend Heather Glenn, now Fisk’s Mental Health Commissioner, conducts a psychological evaluation on Karen. It turns into an attack as Heather weaponizes Karen’s past. She falsely accuses Karen’s late brother of molesting and even suggests that Karen murdered him (he died in a car accident). She also brings up her history with Frank Castle, and her murdering James Wesley.
Karen refuses to take the bait and instead pities Heather for being so hurt over the end of her relationship with Matt, she went and sided with Fisk. Heather loses control and repeatedly slaps a handcuffed Karen across the face. Karen can only laugh at Heather’s tantrum in response.
Heather Is Breaking Apart at the Seams

Heather Glenn has been struggling with the aftereffects of Muse’s attack on her in season 1. She puts up a front while focusing on her work as a therapist, but the cracks are starting to form.
She alters the results from Jack Duquesne’s psych evaluation to paint him as a dangerous individual. Heather also insists that all vigilantes are nothing but criminals. She even goes as far as to say that Daredevil (who rescued her) is no different from Muse and that she rescued herself. And in a genuinely chilling detail: she kept Muse’s mask after his death. She sees him as a hallucination. She is being pulled toward something dark.
By episode 7, Fisk gives her a blood-red ruby earring to match one she stole from Vanessa’s jewelry box. It is a gift that feels like a collar. Heather is becoming part of Fisk’s world. And it’s only a matter of time until Heather becomes the next Muse.
Daniel Blake Chose to Be Good and It Gets Him Killed
Daniel Blake is Fisk’s Deputy Mayor and is young, ambitious, loyal. BB Urich is a journalist secretly running “City Without Fear,” a viral online series that mocks and exposes Fisk. She uses the information she gets from Daniel for her reports in the hopes of getting justice for her uncle Ben Urich (who Fisk murdered years ago). They became close friends, too close. Every one of Fisk’s secrets that ended up in BB’s reports could be traced back to Daniel.
In “The Hateful Darkness,” Fisk’s enforcer Buck Cashman gives Daniel an impossible order: bring BB to him so he can kill her. Daniel came very close to doing it despite his reservations. Instead, he tells BB to leave the city. He gives her his phone and tells her to “make it count.”
Daniel faces Buck alone where he is beaten and shot to death. Before he dies, Daniel has some final words for Buck. “What is followin’ his [Fisk’s] orders gonna do for you?” Daniel asks Buck. “How long till you’re on the floor with a gun pointed at your head?”
Originally Daniel was supposed to survive his confrontation with Buck. His actor Michael Gandolfini (son of James Gandolfini, who played Tony Soprano) even filmed some scenes for the finale. The death was added at the last-minute during production because the crew thought it was out of character for Buck to let Daniel live.
Matt Goes Back to Court
Knowing that Fisk is trying to lure him out of hiding, Matt takes the bait but not in the way Fisk expects. He shows up to Karen’s trial as a part of her defense team. Fisk was counting on Matt to show up as Daredevil so he could use his actions to justify his anti-vigilante vendetta. Instead, Matt weaponizes the good will Fisk gave him to sow doubt about the legitimacy of the prosecution. It is a reminder that Daredevil’s greatest weapon is not always his fists.
Jessica Jones Returns
Jessica Jones is back! She is reluctantly pulled into the fight when CIA agent Mr. Charles sends armed men to her home while her young daughter is inside. She shares what she knows about the “CIA’s ties to Fisk with Daredevil. Together, they raid an AVTF weapons warehouse and destroy all the weapons inside.
Those weapons were supposed to be shipped to the CIA, but Fisk stole them and gave them to the AVTF instead. This theft is the final straw for Mr. Charles, who pressures Governor McCaffrey to withdraw her support for Fisk.
We also learn that Mr. Charles is recruiting superpowered people for black ops missions on behalf of Valentina Allegra de Fontaine. One of these individuals is Luke Cage, who is heavily implied to be in a relationship with Jessica and is the father of her daughter, Danielle. That story is small this season, but it is building toward a larger arc for season 3.
