He’s confronted by Greef Karga and the other bounty hunters for breaking the Code, but the rest of the Mandalorian convert comes to his aid. The episode ends with the Mandalorian leaving Nevarro with the Child.
Delivering the Child
With the Razor Crest repaired, the Mandalorian returns to Nevarro to deliver the Child to the Client. The Child’s playful curiosity leads him to unscrew the knob on the takeoff lever, but Mando takes it away, telling him, “it’s not a toy.”
Landing in Nevarro’s spaceport, the duo navigates the bustling streets, with the Child observing the different humanoids, aliens, and droids walk past them. They arrive at an Imperial safehouse, greeted by a gatekeeper droid and then stormtroopers. The Child seems frightened by the stormtroopers as they lead him to the Client and Dr. Penn Pershing. Pershing deems the Child healthy, reaffirming the Mandalorian’s flawless reputation. When Mando asks about the number of tracking fobs distributed, the Client remains elusive, only emphasizing the Child’s importance. “But to the victor go the spoils,” he declares, handing the Mandalorian a container of beskar steel bars.
The Child cries as Pershing whisks him away, his large eyes fixed on the Mandalorian. This clearly troubles the Mandalorian, and when he questions the Client’s intentions, he dismisses the concern as uncharacteristic. The Bounty Hunters’ Guild has a strict code: capture the target, deliver it, receive payment, no questions asked.
Mando’s Guilt
The Mandalorian returns to the Tribe’s hidden lair underneath Nevarro with the beskar. The Armorer proposes crafting a full set of armor to replace his damaged one. Paz Vizsla, a fellow Mandalorian, examines one of the bars and recognizes the Imperial emblem etched onto the beskar. He claims the beskar was stolen by the Empire during the Great Purge of Mandalore. He blames this for the Tribe’s forced underground existence, where they can only come out one at a time. Furious that one of their own would work for the Imperial Remnants, he attempts to remove the Mandalorian’s helmet, leading to a brief fight.
The Armorer intervenes, reminding them that the Empire is no more and the beskar has returned. “When one chooses to walk The Way of The Mandalore, you are both hunter and prey,” she explains. “How can one be a coward if one chooses this way of life?”
Mando declines the Armorer’s offer to add a Mudhorn signet to his armor, claiming it wasn’t a noble kill as he was helped by an enemy “who did not know it was my enemy.” Instead, the excess beskar is used to forge whistling birds — anti-personnel missiles capable of taking down multiple enemies. As the Armorer forges his new chest piece, the Mandalorian experiences a flashback to the Separatists attacking his village during the Clone Wars. His parents hide him in a bunker, but he’s discovered by a B2 super battle droid…but the flashback abruptly ends before revealing what happened next.
Entering the cantina with his new beskar armor, the Mandalorian receives envious stares from the other bounty hunters. Greef Karga greets him, boasting about how everyone is jealous because he’s a legend. When Mando asks how many of the hunters have tracking fobs, Karga confirms they all have one, but only Mando completed the deal. Despite Karga’s suggestion to relax, the Mandalorian insists on taking another job, choosing a distant mission to retrieve a nobleman’s son who skipped bail.
Throughout their conversation, the Mandalorian continues to question Karga about the Imperials’ presence in Nevarro and their plans for the Child. Karga says he never asked because it’s against the Guild’s code. He suggests the Mandalorian return to the Core Worlds and alert the New Republic, but Mando dismisses them as a joke. Back at his ship, the Mandalorian notices the takeoff lever the Child played with earlier. As he reattaches the knob, he begins to feel guilty for handing the Child over to the Imperials.
Infiltration and Rescue
While returning to the Imperial hideout, the Mandalorian finds the Child’s floating cradle in a dumpster. Perched on a nearby roof, he utilizes his rifle’s infrared camera and directional microphone to eavesdrop on the Client and Pershing. He overhears the Client instructing Pershing to extract the necessary material, while Pershing reminds him of the order to keep the Child alive. The Client urges Pershing to hurry, as he can no longer guarantee his safety.
The Mandalorian disables the gatekeeper droid’s sensor, then detonates a nearby wall while two stormtroopers leave to investigate. He mows through the stormtroopers, using the element of surprise to his advantage. He finds the Child in a room with Dr. Pershing, strapped to a scanner on a dissection table. A horrified Mando demands answers, but Pershing claims he protected the Child, who would be dead without him. He begs for the Mandalorian to not hurt him or the Child, which ultimately leads Mando to spare him. More stormtroopers confront the Mandalorian, but his fighting skills, flamethrower, and whistling birds make short work of them.
A Stand in the Streets
Back in the cantina, nearly every bounty hunter’s tracking fobs are activated, including Greef Karga’s. The Mandalorian walks through the streets of Nevarro until he’s surrounded by several armed bounty hunters. Karga orders him to put the bounty down, while Mando says the Child is coming with him. Karga states if Mando truly cared about the Child, he would put the baby in the droid-driven speeder and discuss terms.
“How do I know I can trust you?” The Mandalorian asks.
Karga scoffs at the question. “Because I’m your only hope.”
The Mandalorian reluctantly places the sleeping Child inside the speeder — then jumps in and forces the droid to drive at gunpoint. A gunfight breaks out, and soon the droid is hit, forcing the speeder to a grinding halt. The Mandalorian uses his rifle to disintegrate a couple of hunters, but it needs to charge after each hit. He uses his flamethrower to drive the crowd back, but he soon runs out of fuel. The Child wakes up in the middle of the battle and coos happily at the Mandalorian. Mando gives the Child one last look before facing the Guild one final time.
Thankfully, the rest of the Tribe comes to his aid, taking out several bounty hunters. Karga leaves now that the battle is no longer in his favor. Paz Vizsla tells Mando to escape while they hold everyone off. The Mandalorian is concerned about the Tribe having to relocate, but all Vizsla has to say is, “this is the way.”
Into the Unknown
The Mandalorian boards the Razor Crest, where he’s confronted by Karga.
“I didn’t want it to come to this,” Karga tells him. “But then you broke the Code.”
The Mandalorian shoots his carbon freezer with his blaster, filling the ship with tibanna gas. He then shoots Karga in the chest, but he survives thanks to having a couple of beskar bars (his cut of the bounty) stashed in his pocket. As the Mandalorian flies his ship out of Nevarro, Paz Vizsla flies beside the Razor Crest and salutes him before flying off.
“I gotta get one of those,” the Mandalorian says after Vizsla disappears. The Child is reaching for the knob on the takeoff lever again. This time, the Mandalorian unscrews the knob and gives it to the Child to play with before taking the Razor Crest into space.
