Resident Evil Requiem (sometimes called RE9) came out on February 27, 2026. It’s been a massive hit for Capcom, selling more than 6 million copies in just 17 days, then passed 7 million by April 2026. That makes it the fastest selling Resident Evil game in the franchise’s history.
The game follows two playable characters, Leon Kennedy (a longtime fan favorite) and a new character named Grace Ashcroft as they investigate the mysterious deaths of Raccoon City survivors. It isn’t long until they uncover a massive conspiracy surrounding a secret project tied to Umbrella Corporation founder Oswald Spencer.
Requiem was expected to get a new story DLC after launch. And yet five months after Requiem was released, there isn’t an official date on when this DLC will come out. So what’s going on?
Why Is the DLC Delayed?
According to a well-known Resident Evil leaker Dusk Golem, Requiem’s story DLC will arrive after Resident Evil Veronica. Capcom announced the remake for the 2000 survival horror classic Code: Veronica at Summer Games Fest 2026 for a 2027 release on PC, Nintendo Switch 2, Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5.
Dusk Golem states that because Capcom’s top priority is currently Resident Evil Veronica, a lot of the studio’s resources are being allocated to the remake so that it can finish on schedule. That leaves less room to push out a Requiem DLC before the end of the year.
Dusk Golem also claims that Capcom is investing in longer, ambitious story DLCs going forward for the whole franchise. These monster DLCs are expected to be similar in scale to Resident Evil 4’s Separate Ways or Resident Evil Village’s Shadows of Rose. The pivot is partly due to spinoff games like Chronicles not performing as well as the main games. These longer DLCs will help fill the release schedule for future RE games.

Wait, Is There a Narrative Reason for the Delay Too?
Yoshiaki Hirabayashi, the producer on Resident Evil Veronica, mentioned that the remake is reworking the story so that it fits in with the series’ timeline. It’s possible that whatever happens in Veronica will be referenced in the Requiem DLC, and that’s why Capcom wants people to play the remake first.

As for what the DLC itself might involve, leaks suggest it will be split into two separate story expansions rather than a single campaign. One is rumored to pair Leon Kennedy with Alyssa Ashcroft, Grace’s mother who was killed in Requiem. The other is rumored to bring back Chris Redfield alongside Ada Wong, two popular characters many players want to see more of. Some leaked character models tied to this second DLC reportedly feature a younger version of Grace, since the story is supposed to fill in gaps from before the events from the main game.
Again, none of this has been officially confirmed to be real. It’s very possible that these details will change or even be removed, so we’ll have to wait and see.
What Else Is Capcom Working On?
Since we’re already talking about future RE projects, it’s worth mentioning that a remake of Resident Evil Zero (the 2002 prequel game) is reportedly in the works under the internal codename “Project Chambers.”
Leaked data say it’ll finally add an online co-op mode, something the original never had since it only let you swap between its two characters, Rebecca Chambers and Billy Coen. There’s also a rumor that actor Jon McLaren, who voiced Star-Lord in the Guardians of the Galaxy game, will play Billy Coen in this version. That remake is reportedly aiming for a 2028 release.
Another thing to be excited about is the possibility of getting a Resident Evil game set in Japan. Capcom has never featured their home country in the mainline series before. Requiem’s producer Masato Kumazawa hinted in an interview that every member of RE’s dev team has “given it some thought. While Japan hasn’t appeared as a game setting so far, it might make an appearance at some point in the future.”
Is waiting for updates on the Requiem DLC annoying? Yes, because all these leaks and rumors paint an exciting picture of where Capcom intends to take the survival horror franchise. But for now, all anyone can do is for an official announcement on when the Requiem DLC will come out and what to expect. Considering how well the main game turned out, the DLC might be worth the wait.
